As a precautionary public and employee safety measure, effective March 17, 2020, and until further notice, the Township of Hanover Department of Public Works (DPW) complex and Recycling Center will be closed to the public in an effort to prevent social contact and potential transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Residents will not be allowed to enter the DPW complex located at 25 North Jefferson Road in Whippany to drop off any items or the Recycling Center located off Stoney Brook Road. The DPW office will also be closed to the public.
Curbside sanitation, recycling collection, and yard waste collection will continue as scheduled. Bulk sanitation collection will be done by appointment only. Residents need to call the DPW at (973) 428-2495 to schedule an appointment.
The Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MCMUA) sent a notice in regards to recycling PPE (personal protective equipment): Items such as gloves, wipes, masks, and tissues, which are being widely used by all Morris County residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic, should not be placed into curbside recycling containers. They are contaminants and must be put into the trash. MCMUA employees will not be picking up any bins that contain these items. Read more about the MCMUA’s policy on the disposing of PPE.
The DPW is acting out of an abundance of caution as the pandemic runs its course and appreciates the public’s patience, understanding, and use of our curbside collection programs to properly dispose of sanitation, recycling, and bulk items. Updates will be provided on the Township’s website and through the media, including when public access can again resume. If anyone has any questions about the DPW complex closure, they can call the Department of Public Works at (973) 428-2495.
COVID-19 Operations Update on May 4, 2020:
Starting on Saturday, May 9th, the Township’s Recycling Center located on Stoney Brook Road will open two days a week until further notice. The Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and on Wednesdays, from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
In the interest of protecting one another from COVID-19, residents are asked to wear face masks.
We anticipate that many residents will take advantage of the limited schedule so there may be a wait at the entrance gate.
Please be considerate, patient, and understanding. Your cooperation is appreciated.
