Park in the Casa de Montecristo Lot – Route 10, East
The Whippany Burying Yard (WBY) predates USA, New Jersey, and Morris County.
- The 1718 WBY is the oldest colonial graveyard in Morris County
- Site of the first school and church in Morris, Warren, and Sussex
- Site of the first militia training ground in that region
- Next to:
- the 1715 Iron Forge – which started northwestern NJ’s iron industry
- the future “Tuttle-Spada Museum” (1796)
- Related to:
- “Fordville” – the forge builder’s family homestead for 250 years
- “Ford Mansion” – Washington’s Revolutionary War Headquarters
- Across from:
- The Whippany River from where Whippany’s Bell Labs stood
- The former site of the first-ever TV broadcast (1927)
- Route 10 from the Whippany Railroad Museum
The WBY has many who made history – some in unmarked graves.
Visit, learn of – and from them.
