As we experience severe cold and inclement weather, the Township wishes to remind all property owners of their responsibilities with respect to the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks. Chapter 237 of the Township’s Code requires all property owners, occupants or tenants to remove snow and/or ice within 12 hours following the end of a snow or ice storm. In the event that ice may be so frozen as to make removal impractical, property owners or tenants shall thoroughly cover sidewalks with an ice melting agent. If you have sidewalks leading to a school bus stop, please make certain to thoroughly remove snow and ice in the interest of child safety. In addition, in those condominium developments and other properties having parking spaces reserved for drivers with disabilities, the Code prohibits reserved spaces from being blocked with the piling or placement of snow and ice. Finally, following a major snow storm, our fire departments usually send out crews to remove snow from around fire hydrants. If you have a hydrant at or near your property, any assistance you can render in removing covered hydrants is appreciated.
