Hanover Township Programs

Blood Pressure Clinic:
The Township of Hanover Health Department offers a monthly Blood Pressure Screening  Clinic the 1st Wednesday of every month (September – June) from 11am – 12pm in the Lounge of the Township of Hanover Community Center 15 North Jefferson Road, Whippany. 
All residents over the age of 18 years are welcome to attend, no appointment necessary.

Dial A Ride:
The Township of Hanover offers Dial-A-Ride services to Seniors and non-ambulatory disabled individuals.  Door to door service is available for the following:  #1 priority – medical appointments, #2 priority – food shopping every Tuesday morning. 
The second Thursday of the month is a mall trip (except January-April). 
Reservations for medical appointments are required at least 2 weeks in advance by calling the Dial-A-Ride office at 973-428-2498. 
Office hours are Monday – Friday 9:00am – 4:30pm.  Please call 973-428-2498 to schedule an appointment. 
Vehicle operation is Monday-Friday 9:00am – 3:30pm. Vehicle is handicapped accessible.

Senior Club:
The Hanover Township Senior Club meets at noon on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Hanover Township Community Center located at 15 North Jefferson Road, Whippany.  Some meetings may be offsite.

Food Pantry:
•The interfaith food pantry serves residents of Morris County.  You must apply to find out if you qualify.

Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs (MCOHA)
 MCOHA is a non-profit organization that has been helping the community since 1976 through different programs and is open to ALL Morris County Residents.
 MCOHA has locations in Dover, Morristown, and Butler. They provide a variety of social services including: transportation services, a home energy assistance program, and weatherization program. They also help those who are seeking to become legal U.S. residents through their Center for Citizenship and Legal Immigration (CCLI).

NewBridge Services
•NewBridge provides a range of adult residential services that encompass group homes, supervised apartments, and supportive/affordable housing, as well as case management.

Nutrition Sites / Meals on Wheels:
•The Morris County Senior Nutrition Program serves nutritious noontime meals and provides the opportunity to socialize with others at various nutrition sites.

•Sites are open from 9am – 2pm with meals served around 12 noon.  There is no charge for the meals, but a small donation ($2.00) is suggested.  Reservations are required 24 hours in advance by calling the specific site.  Meals on Wheels deliver meals for home bound seniors.  For meals on wheels arrangements please call (800)-564-4656.

ADRC
• The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and the Department of Human Services have established a “one-door” access to services that will help people age in place. In New Jersey, this is called the Aging & Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) guide and/or Area Agency on Aging (AAA).

Comfort Partners is a free energy saving and energy education program for qualified low-income customers.

Free Tax Preparation Services for Taxpayers
• Free assistance in the preparation of New Jersey Income Tax returns is available for taxpayers through VITA/TCE. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, is for individuals of low to moderate income, individuals with disabilities, and non-English speaking taxpayers. Tax Counseling for the Elderly, or TCE, is for individuals 60 years of age or older. Click Here for more information. • AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program

Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP)
 The Home Energy Assistance Program helps very low-income residents with their heating and cooling bills, and makes provisions for emergency heating system services and emergency fuel assistance within the Home Energy Assistance Program.

NJ 2-1-1
• Whether struggling with a personal challenge or recovering from a natural disaster, NJ 2-1-1 provides connections to services that often mean the difference between hope and despair. 2-1-1 is a database of resources to help residents in need. Resource categories include: seniors, veterans, housing, financial assistance, food, housing, utilities, addiction, etc.

N.J. Helps:
• NJ Helps is a free and easy guide for you to determine what programs and assistance for which you and your family may be eligible. NJ Helps will tell you where to go for help and what to bring with you, after you have answered a few basic questions.
• NJ Helps cannot guarantee that you qualify for these programs. You must still apply for help by contacting and filling out the required forms for each program.
• Information includes but is not limited to: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Work First New Jersey (WFNJ) which includes Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and General Assistance (GA), and NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid

• NJ SHARES is an energy and utility assistance safety net for households in an emergency or crisis situation who are not eligible for other forms of assistance. Please click here to see their programs.

S.H.I.P. (State Health Insurance Program):
• The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides FREE help to New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries who have problems with, or questions about their health insurance.  Counselors are available at sites in all 21 counties.  For more information call 1-800-792-8820 or click here

Special Automobile Insurance Policy (SAIP)
The Special Automobile Insurance Policy (SAIP) is an initiative to help make limited auto insurance coverage available to drivers who are eligible for Federal Medicaid with hospitalization. Such drivers can obtain a medical coverage-only policy at a cost of $365 a year.
